Microgaming: Software Overview
Microgaming is a privately held casino software company based in the Isle of Man (IOM). While the towering headquarters at Sixty Two is their main HQ, many of Microgaming's operations and offices are spread throughout the globe. While many other leading casino game vendors have, in quick succession, become stock market listed, including Evolution and Netent, Microgaming hasn't. Even though the company is worth millions, it's not possible to buy stocks and shares because it remains a privately held company; and doesn't appear to be moving towards any step to change that.
The current CEO is John Coleman, who was appointed in 2018. John Coleman has been with the company for a while, and prior to being the CEO was the CFO. Before John, the CEO was Roger Raatgever, who held the position for many years.
The history of Microgaming is self adulating. Microgaming is known for many industry firsts; blockbuster branded games, mammoth progressive jackpots, a popular sportsbook platform, and starting some of the most highly-skilled, niche studios that turn out only the best and most innovative games.

Microgaming Progressive jackpots
Microgaming is most famously known for its pioneering slots and progressive jackpots. It was the first casino software company to create an online progressive jackpot, called Mega Moolah (we're sure you would have heard of it) which was the first slot to pay out a record-breaking win, to the tune of $6,374,434 in May 2009. At that time, it was the largest online casino payout to date and set a new standard for online progressive jackpot slots. In 2015, the company set another world record when its Mega Moolah slot produced another jackpot win of almost €18,000,000.
Mega Moolah Jackpot Slots
Mega Moolah isn't the only progressive slot that Microgaming are famous for; other titles include Major Millions, Treasure Nile, King Cashalot and Tunzamunni, popular games that have been players' favourites for years. They're classic, first-generation jackpots but they're still as popular as they were when they first launched.
In 2020, Microgaming upped its innovation by producing new types of progressive slots to rival even their own Mega Moolah called Wowpot Jackpots. Around this time, also Microgaming decided to refresh their 'Mega Moolah' offering by launching new versions of the game, including Mega Moolah Absalootly Mad, Mega Moolah Atlantean Treasure, Mega Moolah Witches Moon and rebranding Mega Moolah Isis, to Mega Moolah Goddess.
WowPot Jackpots
In little to no time, Wowpot slots have dominated the market, as much as Mega Moolah. WowPot is a four-tiered online progressive jackpot that rivals the Mega Moolah jackpot network. The difference between them is that Wowpots start seeding at £2 million (whereas Mega Moolah starts at £1 Million) with no limit on how big it can grow! WowPot launched with Wheel of Wishes in February 2020 and now features an ever-growing selection of exciting slots, including Book of Atem WowPot, Sisters of Oz Wowpot, Blazing Diamonds Wowpot and Queen of Alexandria Wowpot.
Microgaming Slots
Microgaming is probably best known for its slots portfolio, which at the time of writing, consists of over 500 unique titles, which include many classic 'much loved' games, such as Retro Reels: Extreme Heat, to blockbuster branded slots including Jurassic Park, Tomb Raider, Game of Thrones, Bridesmaids, The Terminator, to other renowned games that, no matter how much time passes, they still manage to stay a firm favourite of many slots players. We're of course talking about Immortal Romance, Break Da Bank, Bar Bar Black Sheep, Hyperstrike and Thunderstruck I & II.
Microgaming Slot Features
Microgaming is world-famous for innovation. Much of their innovation shines when it comes to their slot game features, with new Link&Win slots being a hit with many players. What's more, Microgaming also makes it easy for smaller, newer game studios to publish games on its Quickfire game platform.
Table Games & Live Dealer Casino Games
Microgaming does also cover other types of casino games other than slots, however, we think it's fair to say that slots are its bread and butter. If you prefer to play classic games, then we recommend trying Microgamings table games, including many variations of Roulette, Blackjack, Baccarat and Video Poker. Microgamings table games are available at most Microgaming casinos, including those we recommend above.
When it comes to Microgaming live dealer games, it may sound surprising but Microgaming does not dominate the sphere here. It seems they leave it to dedicated live dealer studios like Evolution, however, there is a nice selection of live games available from Microgaming at most UK casinos. The live casino interface is pretty intuitive and you'll find very professional live dealers and plenty of fun games around the clock.
